THANK YOU FOR KEEPING RECORDS.
As a businessman, what keeps your enterprise going successfully is the ability to be ACCESSIBLE to your customers. It is a great asset to be REACHABLE and to be APPROACHABLE by the people you serve in business. But this has its downsides too.
Perhaps more than 80% of your customers will PREVAIL ON YOU to persuade your staff to PERMIT DISCOUNTS and GIVE CONSIDERATIONS. All they need from you is a nod of approval that they should be given SPECIAL PRIVILEGES. And this is very okay. Where the challenge is, is that many times out of your very voluminous interactions, you forget WITH WHOM YOU AGREED ON WHAT. It is very easy to forget a rebate approved, a fee waived, a penalty pardoned or even a scholarship given.
This is why one of my trainings as a Computer Scientist is evergreen. The foundational lessons in records and database management has stayed with me ever since.
IF YOU RUN ANY IDEA, SERVICE, PRODUCT OR BUSINESS, your GOAL is to DEVELOP A SYSTEM.
A system is that DYNAMICS where someone is responsible for something and everything that is done in the business has a seamless ACQUISITION, EXECUTION & COMPLETION.
Most people are skilled and it is with this skill that they commence trading and exchanging value, which makes us call them business people. This is the TECHNICAL STAGE.
Some grow to become good managers, which happens when the business has grown to a point where you cannot do everything by yourself. You cannot be core service provider, and accountant and customer service and admin, all at the same time. This is the MANAGEMENT STAGE. And VERY FEW PEOPLE SUCCEED AT THE MANAGERIAL STAGE OF BUSINESS. Because it’s the MOST TASKING or DELICATE OF ALL 3 PHASES.
Almost less than 0.01% attain the ENTREPRENEURIAL STAGE, which is the SYSTEM STAGE. Most guys who do business call themselves Entrepreneurs. That is not really correct until you have a system that makes money WITH MINIMAL INVOLVEMENT FROM YOU.
